"One of the most common problems treated by foot and ankle specialists is heel pain. Most often, the cause of this pain is a musculoskeletal condition called insertional plantar fasciitis which is also known as “heel spur syndrome.” This is an inflammatory condition that involves the plantar fascia at or near its connection to the calcaneus. Clinically, the condition classically presents with sharp or severe pain with the “first step of the day” which tends to “ease-up” after a short interval of weight bearing. This pattern is then recurrent when the patient sits down
for periods of time, and then bears
weight again." . . . → Read More: MD News Article About the Benefits ESWT

Study: Shockwave Therapy Beneficial After ACL Reconstruction

The application of extracorporeal shock wave therapy to the bone tunnel can significantly enhance the early tendon-bone healing and decreasing tibial tunnel enlargement after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, according to a study published in The American Journal of Sports Medicine.

Researchers examined 34 patients who either underwent single-bundle ACL reconstruction and ESWT to the midtibia tunnel or ACL surgery without ESWT. The shock wave therapy group showed significantly better Lysholm scores than the control group one and two years after surgery.

ESWT treatment is a FDA approved, non-surgical treatment that uses sound waves to encourage damaged cells to rebuild. A procedure is about 10 minutes and it is recommended that you have a procedure once a week for three consecutive weeks. There is a 90% success rate in pain reduction for those that receive this therapy. Since this procedure is done outside the body (similar to an ultrasound), it has a very low risk of side effects with a quick recovery time. To learn more please click here: SONOCUR Technology/ Patient Information
